Creating Automations
On this page you will find information around locating automations within the app, selecting the relevant triggers, outlining tasks, inserting delays and schedules & naming your automations.
Locating Automations in the app
To access automations within the hey! app you simply need to select the 'smart' tab along the botton navigation bar.
From here you can choose between creating an automation or a tap to run programme.
What is the difference between them?
Well, put simply an automation is a set of tasks that will automatically run when a trigger has been activated, without the need for the app user to do anything.
Whereas, a tap to run programme is a shortcut which can activate an entire scene at the touch of a button. For example, 'evening mode' can be pressed by the user and this could set all the lights to your preferred scene.
Selecting an automation trigger
To create your first automation you will first need to click the '+' icon in the top right corner of the page, please ensure you have automation selected in the top left before trying this.
From here, you will need to decide which trigger is going to be the most appropriate for what you are trying to achieve. You can choose from weather, scheduling for a specific time of day or when the status of one of your smart devices changes.
For this example we will be using the smart motion detector as a trigger for the programme. This means that whenever this device detects motion it will immediatley begin this automation programme.
Therefore, from the this page you will need to select when a device status changes and then select the smart motion sensor.
Selecting tasks for the automation to carry out
Next, you will need to specify exactly what tasks you would like the automation to carry out once the trigger has been activated.
For this example we are demonstrating how motion detection can be used to turn on a smart bulb.
Therefore, for the task you will need to select 'run this device', select the corresponding smart bulb from the list of devices and then specify you would like the bulb to turn on.
At this point you can adjust the variables of the smart bulb such as brightness and warmth of the light.
Adding multiple tasks within the same automation
If you wish to add more than one task to an automation, don't worry - there is no limit to the number of tasks that can be added.
To add extra tasks to the programme you simply need to click the '+' icon next to tasks and you will be presented with a list of all the possible tasks that can be added.
From here, follow the above steps to adjust the tasks to your requirements.
Adding a delay into the automation
Adding a delay into the automation can be extremeley useful, especially if you don't want all of the specified tasks to run at the exact same time.
To add a delay into your programme click the '+' icon next to tasks and select 'delay the action.' From here, simply input how long you would like the delay to last and press confirm.
For this example, we have used the motion detection to switch on a smart bulb, inputted a delay of 10 minutes and then another task to switch the bulb off.
Now this single automation will turn the light on as soon as motion has been detected, leave the light on and then switch it back off after 10 minutes.
Selecting the effective time for the automation to run
Once you have finished inputting all the tasks for the automation to complete you can also specify exactly which time of the day this programme should run.
This is particularly useful if you only want the programme to run in the evening or when the house is empty.
Renaming your automation
Congratulations your first automation programme is now complete!
One final recommendation from the hey! team would be to rename your programme something you will recognise.
This will help a lot when you undoubtedly create many more automations and you need to find a specific programme within a list of many!
